Request for Traffic Calming
Murray Street is often seen as a “shortcut” for people trying to get to the MacDonald Bridge or to the highway, since it avoids the intersection of Victoria and Boland Road. There are frequent cars speeding along this road, and it poses a safety concern to occupants of this neighbourhood. There are no sidewalks along Murray Street, so pedestrians are at risk of being hit by careless and dangerous drivers, who often drive above 60km/hour in their rush to avoid traffic. As Halifax has grown, the city needs to address the impact on the streets adjacent to major thoroughfares. I would like speed bumps to be installed on this street in order to ensure the safety of the residents of the neighbourhood and discourage people taking a “shortcut” through what is otherwise a simple residential street.
